Akshardham Temple

Akshardham Temple is the best example of contemporary architecture that is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan. This place is considered as a place of educations, enlightenment, and entertainment which was built over 13 years and is a tribute to Lord Swaminarayan’s teachings. It has a 10 story tall golden statue of Lord Swaminarayan. This place also has a herbal garden, a lake, and a waterfall.

Jama Masjid

This spectacular site is also known as Jumma Masjid which was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah I in 1424. This mosque is built in yellow sandstone and is carved with very complicated design. It has a wide-open courtyard, white marbled floors, and some of the central domes are carved like the lotus flower which is closely linked to Jain temples. Some of the pillars inside the mosque are carved like a bell hanging from a chain in Hindu temples. A window in the innermost part of the mosque has an ‘Om’ symbol carved on it.

Adalaj Stepwell

Stepwells are also known as ‘vavs’ in Gujarat. This was built by Queen Rudabai in the memory of Rana Veer Singh in 1499. Adalaj Well provides refuge to travelers for drinking, bathing, etc as this is an arid region. Since this is an octagon-shaped well which allows light and air for ventilation, the temperature here is almost 6 degrees lower than the outer atmosphere. This is the spectacular example of Indo-Islamic architecture and is five stories deep.

Kankaria Lake

Kankaria Lake is the biggest lake in the city located in the south-eastern part of the city which was initially known as Hauz-E-Qutub. It was built during the reign of Sultan Kutubuddin.
