Jang-e-Azadi Memorial is a memorial and museum built in Kartarpur town of Punjab, India. It is founded in memory of unparalleled contribution and sacrifice made by the Indians and Punjabi community in the Indian Independence movement. This memorial is built over an area of 25 acres and costs nearly 200 crores. The former Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal laid the foundation stone of this Jang-e-Azadi memorial on 19th October 2014. The actual work started on 26th March 2015. A committee of well-known historians, journalists, and intellectuals was constituted to finalize the action plan and concept of the memorial to be built up.

The Memorial aims to disseminate knowledge about the rich cultural heritage of the State in the minds of youngsters. This site, which falls on the Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway, was carefully selected by the State Government keeping in mind its easy accessibility to visitors and to add another tourist destination for those on way to the Golden Temple. Punjab Freedom Movement Memorial Foundation was formed by the Government of Punjab for implementation of this prestigious project. Nearest Railway Station to this place is Kartarpur Railway Station. The project is designed by a popular architect Raj Rewal. The design layout of this memorial is conceptualized and designed by him and it has been approved by the Government. According to the proposed design, various galleries will be constructed to project the different movements of the freedom struggle.




There will be a tower also known as Shaheed-e-Minar, in honor of the Martyrs of Indian freedom struggle. In addition to it, an auditorium, movie hall, open-air theatre, amphitheater, library, research and seminar halls etc. will also be constructed as an integral part of the memorial galleries.

For experiencing the era of Indian freedom Struggle one must definitely visit this place. This place is open from 9:30 am in the morning to 7:00 pm in the evening for all days except Tuesday. On Tuesday it is open till 12:00 am.
