Burj Khalifa: All You Need To Know

HISTORY

Burj Khalifa also called as “Khalifa Tower” is the world’s tallest building ever built. It is a very tall skyscraper in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates having around 162 floors and a height of 2,717 feet (828 meters). Burj Khalifa was known as Burj Dubai during the construction and was officially named to honor Abū Ẓaby, Sheikh Khalīfah ibn Zāyid Āl Nahyān, the president of the neighboring emirate. The construction of the tower was started in 2004 and the building was then officially opened on 4 January 2010. But until then, the entirety of the interior was not complete. Taipei 101 was the tallest building until 2010 and currently, Burj Khalifa is 300 meters (980 ft) taller than Taipei 101. The Khalifa Tower was designed by the Chicago-based architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Adrian Smith designed the tower whereas; William F. Baker served as a structural engineer. Burj Khalifa also broke numerous other records, including the world’s tallest freestanding structure, the world’s highest occupied floor, and the world’s highest outdoor observation deck.

ATTRACTIONS

Burj Khalifa is the tallest skyscraper in the world. It’s the greatest thing to see the world from the top floor of Khalifa at the height of 2,717 feet which is almost half a mile. The tower’s three Sky Lobbies act as transfer areas for residents and guests. These Sky Lobbies are connected by express elevators, traveling at 10 meters per second that exclusively feature composed instrumental music. On descending gently to the ground level, a new exhibit allows reliving the historic build of Burj Khalifa. The dedicated station takes behind the scenes where one can listen to testimonials of the ‘People Behind Burj’, giving an insight into every aspect from the interiors and landscaping to the design and architecture.

Burj Khalifa is famous to have the highest outdoor observation deck in the world spread across level 148 and 125 of Burj Khalifa. At level 148 555 meters high, world’s highest outdoor observation deck is present where one can enjoy the breathtaking views of different corners of the Emirate in the luxurious lounges provided. Level 125, on the other hand, offers a spacious deck to enjoy the stunning 360-degree view of the city. There’s also a fine dining restaurant and bar called At. Mosphere on the 122nd floor which also includes options for vegetarian food. For Italian lovers, Armani Restaurant is present with chic decor, bar, and city views at the lobby level. These restaurants boast an extensive selection of delights that are sure to leave you satisfied. The tower takes on a tri-petal form in order to allow every apartment to have an unexcelled view of the city.  In addition to this, the incandescent lights at the top of the building provide the finishing touches to this amazing piece of architecture.

There is also a park in front of the building where one can spend time contemplating the building. The Park draws inspiration from Hymenocallis, the desert flower. The park has six water features, palm-lined walkways, gardens and flowering trees. There is a water room located at the center of the park and the base, featuring a series of pools and water jet fountains. The building uses condensation collection system from the cooling system of the tower to water plants and shrubbery at the park. When hot and humid air outside the tower combines with the tower’s cooling requirements, the considerable amount of condensed moisture is generated. The water is stored in the car park at the basement, providing nearly 15mn gallons of supplemental water annually, equivalent to 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools. All railings, benches, and signs depict images of Burj Khalifa and Hymenocallis flower. The park area also includes two tennis courts, a wading pool, and a children’s playing ground.
